Agitator Design
August 7th, 2007In several major industries agitator design can be very important. One of those is the manufacture of washing machines both for home and commercial use. In order to get clean the clothes must be moved about and mixed with the water and detergent in just the right way for maximum effectiveness. An agitator that is not working properly will fail to do this causing the clothes to come out of the machine basically just a s dirty as when they went into it.
Another problem with faulty agitator design is clothes getting tangled in the agitator and even damaged. This can be a particular problem in commercial sized machines where large loads are commonplace. For example, a large hotel that washes and dries its own linens can have a real problem if the agitator badly tangles the sheets or bedspreads. This can cause them to be stretched so they no longer properly fit the beds, or even to be torn and rendered completely unusable.
Poor agitator design can also lead to the damage or destruction of the washing machines themselves, If an agitator is not working properly it can cause the clothes to all shift to one side of a machine and throw the machine off balance. When this occurs the machine will begin vibrating violently and if it does this often enough and for long enough then the machines motor or basic structure can be severely damaged.
Another area where agitator design is important is in the biochemical industry where agitators are used to carefully regulate the flow of liquids so they go a certain direction in a bioreactor. If this is not successfully done the reactor can be compromised and shut down.
